Horses Put Down YTD. Los Alamitos Has Most CA Horse Racing Deaths in 2020; 91 Horses at California Tracks So Far..

SITUATION:
Young race horses continue to die at major race tracks in the U.S.
436 Dead Racehorses at the Various Tracks in the Country -so far & counting for 2020 through November 27
Injured young horses under age six whose muscular & bone development is not complete are being put down.

SIGNIFICANCE:
Santa Anita opens December 23, 2020 – One of the first for the 2021 Season
Every major tracks has set a racing schedule for 2021
Los Alamitos had the deadliest racing season for CA tracks in 2020 (See Stats below)
No sign of change of practices by Racing Industry, legislation, or the California Horse Racing Board.

SOLUTIONS:
Horse Racing Wrongs site points out the continued pounding of unformed bodies causes death.
Typical horse does not reach full musculoskeletal maturity till around six years old.
Whereas, typical racehorse begins “training” at 18 months and is raced at two.
Stop Confinement; Active racehorses are kept isolated in small stalls 23 hours a day.
Limit Racehorses bought & sold several times over during the course of their “careers”
Control drugging and doping: Racehorses are injected with various drugs constantly.

DEATHS AT CALIFORNIA TRACKS:

Del Mar: 5 dead racehorses
Golden Gate Fields: 25 dead racehorses
Los Alamitos Race Course: 41 dead racehorses
Santa Anita Park: 18 dead racehorses
San Luis Rey: 2 dead racehorses

DEATHS AT ALL TRACKS:
67 at all tracks for months of Sept, Oct Nov 2020.
89 at New York Tracks as of November 24th
